Our Mission

Serving Seniors in Contra Costa

We support homebound elders to maintain their health and dignity, and to live independently in the comfort and security of their own homes.

We serve homebound senior citizens who have one or more chronic health conditions that prevent their preparing nutritious daily meals for themselves.

Hear What They Have to Say about Meals on Wheels

Edward

Edward assisted the Seals and Marines as river patrol during the Vietnam War. When he talks about the war, his eyes swell with tears as he remembers the friends he lost. He bemoans the fact that he never learned to cook so having a nutritious meal every day is saving his life. “It’s not just a meal,” says Edward, “it’s friendship.”

Winky

Winky has lived in Martinez her whole life. She played 2nd base on a women's softball team for 11 years! A fan of the San Francisco Giants, Winky describes herself as a "moving person," who doesn't like sitting or confinement. After her stroke, she still manages to get outside and walks for her therapy, but finds coordinating and preparing meals to be very difficult for her. Winky feels very lucky to have found Meals on Wheels. Go Giants!!

Terrisa

Terrisa began receiving meals after her fall. Her niece put her in touch with Meals on Wheels. She feels the meals are very nutritious, and her favorite so far is the beef stew with cornbread! Terrisa enjoys the drivers who deliver the meals, they have been very friendly to her and make her feel very comfortable.
