A Note From Paul

While 2017 passes to history, we look ahead to 2018 with some trepidation. Donations from generous individuals and a relatively few grants from charitable organization to Meals on Wheels of Contra Costa are the leading source of funding for the countywide Meals on Wheels Program in Contra Costa County. We are the only charita
ble organization that raises community funds specifically to provide the meals and delivery costs of bringing 416,000 annual home delivered meals to nearly 2,300 homebound elders countywide. Concern over  the possible negative impacts in 2018 of the new federal tax legislation on the future of individual donations, and regarding the upcoming efforts in Congress to cut funding for senior nutrition programs, are ample cause  for anxiety in the new year.
The homebound elders who receive nutritious daily Meals on Wheels deliveries have no other viable means of receiving daily nutritious meals. Without our help many would likely have to choose between paying their rent and utilities, obtaining desperately needed medications and medical assistance, or receiving nutritious daily sustenance to maintain their health and continue to live in the comfort and security of their own homes.
Thank you once again for your wonderful continued help that touches the lives of many homebound elders in need.

Best Wishes for a Healthy and Prosperous New Year.

~Paul Kraintz, Secretary/Treasurer, Meals on Wheels of Contra Costa and Director, Senior Nutrition Program
